Benefits aside, those familiar with the feature’s checkered past, will agree that FileVault can be very temperamental during set up. FileVault can be an asset in that it may protect your data from intrusion, unauthorized access and theft should the drive be removed from the Mac. I can’t believe I’m the first on the planet who faced this problem and I’m sure there is a solution for it.įolks, I wish many of you had found my message before now. What I can do with this case? I’ve found software named Passware Kit Forensic that can decrypt FireVault2 drives but it needs physical memory image which I think is useless now from upgraded to OS X Mavericks system. So more likely I can’t have encryption password to be recovered (and recovery key too) but I need to recover the data on the drive. Password hint says ‘last name date’ (exactly ‘date’, not ‘data’) and he insists that he didn’t enter any encryption password or any security questions all the more so. He tried every password he usually used for system’s administrator account or everywhere else but there was no luck. When he used his external drive in Mountain Lion system it didn’t ask for password when the drive was mounted but after upgrade it began to ask for password to decrypt the drive. He used Mountain Lion before but some time ago he upgraded his OS X to Mavericks. My father has an external usb drive with his own data on it. I’ve faced a serious problem which I can’t solve for several weeks already. Once it’s finished decrypting, you should be able to access your data again using normal recovery methods (booting from another 10.6 or 10.7 boot drive, utility drive, etc.) If you turn off the encryption, the encrypted drive will decrypt. If you unlock the drive, you should then be able to use Disk Utility’s repair tools to hopefully fix the problem that’s preventing your Mac from booting.ħ. When prompted for a password, you can enter the password of any authorized account on the drive.Ħ. Under the File menu, select Unlock “Drive Name” or Turn Off Encryption…, based on what you want to do.ĥ. As long as you have 10.7’s Disk Utility, this should work.Ĥ. Note: You can also boot from a 10.7 installer drive, boot to Target Disk Mode and connect it via Firewire or Thunderbolt to another Mac, or use some other 10.7-booting drive. Boot your Mac and hold down ⌘-R (Command –R) to boot from the Mac’s Recovery HD partition. Update – June 11, 2013: As of Mac OS X 10.8.4, you will need to unlock the encrypted volume first, then you will be able to decrypt it. In the event that you find yourself in this place, or you’re about to be, here’s how you can unlock or decrypt your FileVault 2-encrypted drive using Disk Utility and the password of an account that’s authorized to log in at the FileVault 2 pre-boot login screen. Bad things happen and sometimes those bad things cause your FileVault 2-encrypted Mac to be unbootable.

Just like Episodes 1 and 2, there are new achievements to earn, as well as many of the original achievements from the first release. Joe Kimmes: Episode 3 has 5 structural chapters – three story missions, an open world investigation and a brief epilogue. Shacknews: Can you talk a bit more about Living World Season 1 Episode 3? For example, how many story chapters will there be, and are there any new rewards or achievements? Upgrades to our storytelling tools have helped out as well – since the original release of Season 1 we’ve developed a lot of improved methods for having player-specific story in the open world, and that let us bring the old content into a linear structure in ways that wouldn’t have worked at the time. We wanted it to play just like the later releases in Season 2 and onward – a replayable chapter that each of your characters could experience or repeat. Previous experimental releases helped prove that the Season 1 content could be brought back – the Scrying Pool missions in Icebrood Saga and the independent Twisted Marionette release last year – and with the End of Dragons expansion concluding one of the game’s longest running narrative arcs, it was the right time to connect it all together.įitting it into story chapter releases, compared to its original seasonal structure, made the most sense. Key moments like the introduction of steadfast allies and recurring plot points made Season 1 a noted gap in the story between the core game’s Personal Story and the beginning of Season 2.īringing Season 1 back in some form has been on our minds throughout that time, and a few things lined up to make now the right time for it. Joe Kimmes, Season 1 Team Lead: We’ve felt the absence of Season 1 since its conclusion – as the story continued into later seasons and expansions, having a piece of the narrative that players couldn’t experience firsthand was always a sore point. Shacknews: Firstly, why did the team decide to revisit Living World Season 1 as a series of story-based episodes in Guild Wars 2? Guild Wars 2 interview with Joe Kimmes and Indigo Boock on Living World Season 1 Ep. Helping answer our questions and shed additional light on Living World Season 1 and Guild Wars 2 is Joe Kimmes, Season 1 Team Lead, and Indigo Boock, Season 1 Narrative Lead. Episodes 1 and 2 have already been released, with the exciting and much-anticipated Episode 3 releasing in the near future.Ĭurious about what we might be able to look forward to in Episode 3, the return of Living World Season 1 content as a whole, and what else the team might have cooking, we reached out to the Guild Wars 2 team with a batch of questions. Guild Wars 2 players have been given an exciting way to bridge some of the game’s story gaps with the return of Living World Season 1 content, which is being added to the game permanently via five story-based episodes. To make matters worse, WorldShift features no kind of level-based matchmaking system, you won't know if you're playing against a newbie player or a veteran with high-level units until you meet them on the battlefield. But new players won't be stepping onto a level playing field WorldShift was released a year ago in many European countries. Since WorldShift feature an MMO-style skill progression, the more you play, the more powerful you can make your units. Multiplayer removes some of the campaign's frustrations like the pitiful enemy AI, only to swap it for a major new problem: balance. The story is cliché and boring, and the mission objectives are laughably bad, often involving avoiding enemies with stealth – no easy feat with your units' broken pathfinding. Removing base-building may make the gameplay easier for new players, but removes any sort of strategy at all – there's no balance between attack and defense you'll simply always be massing your forces into one large offensive unit and hunting down the bad guys. WorldShift was clearly designed with multiplayer in mind (you have to create an online account to even launch the game), and the single-player campaign is so bad that few players will muscle through it before heading online. The twist to the gameplay is that you discover artifacts in every game mode that you can use to permanently buff your units, so you're constantly improving the abilities of your army, which you can then take online to battle with or against other players. You control a group of characters that you steer around the map, right-clicking on everything you want to kill along the way. Set in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by the technology-based humans, nature-worshipping Tribe and sinister Cult, WorldShift is, at its core, a very simple RTS with all base-building elements removed. Thereafter, Tanner-Brice operated its small retail grocery stores under the name Sims Service Stores, Inc., reserving the Tanner-Brice name for its wholesale operation. The first such business legally conveyed to Tanner-Brice had been managed by a Mr. The company had extended credit and had no choice but to seek legal redress when debtors defaulted on loans. In the 1930s, during the Great Depression, which hit farm areas very hard, the Tanner-Brice Company grew through consolidations and foreclosures. Tanner-Brice was incorporated to wholesale and retail "groceries, dry goods and merchandise generally." Operating in rural Georgia, the company often did business on a bartering rather than a cash basis, particularly with farmers who could exchange eggs and butter for flour or other processed merchandise. It was founded in September 1919, by Mitchell F. The following year, Saunders and his organization had direct control of over 350 Piggly Wiggly stores, and there were many others operating on a royalty basis, paying a half percent of their gross sales to retain the franchise rights.Īmong the companies that would eventually operate under the Piggly Wiggly name was the Tanner-Brice Company of Vidalia, Georgia. By 1920, stores under the Piggly Wiggly name were doing an aggregate $60 million per year business, with 35 stores in Memphis and hundreds in other cities and towns. Even some of the leading food chains, like Kroger and Safeway, operated stores under the Piggly Wiggly name before converting their parent stores to self-service. The plan was extremely successful, and the original Piggly Wiggly company extended franchises to hundreds of independent grocers who wanted to use the system and operate under the Piggly Wiggly name, giving the company a very complex history. Saunders' first store, the forerunner of contemporary supermarkets, was designed to allow customers access to shelved merchandise which they would select and carry through turnstiles to checkout counters. Prior to Saunders' introduction of Piggly Wiggly, grocery chains were essentially "economy stores," which had replaced home-delivery and credit sales with a cash-and-carry system but were not planned for self-service. Because of its restructuring, innovations, and the improving economy, the picture for Bruno's and its subsidiaries, including Piggly Wiggly Southern, brightened after 1993.Īlthough the food store chain concept was invented by A & P in 1859, the self-service food market came into being as a direct result of the first Piggly Wiggly store, established in Memphis, Tennessee by Clarence Saunders in September 1916. It was also recovering from a tragic air crash that in late 1991 had claimed the lives of Angelo and Lee Bruno, son and grandson of the company's founder, and four other company executives. Bruno's, under competitive pressure from other chains, notably Wal-Mart and Publix, was at that time restructuring its operations, closing unprofitable stores, remodeling others, and altering some of its marketing strategies. However, it left the Piggly Wiggly distribution center in Vidalia, Georgia, its original base. That year, to cut costs, Bruno's moved the Piggly Wiggly Southern corporate offices to Birmingham, Alabama, integrating them as a unit in its home office. By 1993, 57 Piggly Wiggly supermarkets were in operation, located largely in central and southern Georgia, representing 22 percent of its total number of stores. Bruno's acquired Piggly Wiggly Southern in 1988, adding it to its FoodMax, Food World, Food Fair, and Bruno's Food and Pharmacy franchises. is an immediate subsidiary of Bruno's Inc., a food and drug chain company which operates and leases food, drug, and liquor stores in five southeastern states, with the heaviest concentration in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. The desktop app for both Mac and Windows is also clean and organized, with smooth transition from one action to the next. You can opt to view the images in a gallery, as large tiles or in a list, and you have the basic share, copy, rename, download and upload function for an entire folder, as well as individual photos. The photo browser is easy to operate and it slides through photos quickly. With the online SugarSync app, photos are rendered flawlessly. Its online file manager has the exact same functionality as you have in the desktop client, allowing you to upload any type of file to your cloud space. Navigating through the tabs and folders is smooth sailing, regardless of the device you’re using to access it since it’s mobile-optimized. The online control panel is a lightweight, user-friendly web app with a clean structure. Large files can be sent as links via Outlook, including ones that are not saved on your computer. The Remote Wipe feature makes it easy to erase your files remotely in case your computer is lost or stolen, while still being able to access them in the cloud at any time. The online backup software runs all by itself and runs backups automatically, while also storing up to five previous versions of files so you can restore them from any of your devices. Using any of the SugarSync apps, files and folders in My SugarSync will download to all computers or devices connected to the account. As soon as you activate the account, you are given a My SugarSync folder. The power of this online backup service lies in the ability to set exactly which folders you want to be synced and where they should be stored. SugarSync of course wouldn’t have “sync” in its name if its syncing options weren’t perfected. The service comes with a desktop client downloadable immediately after your account is activated, a web app and different mobile apps. SugarSync won the 2012 Mobility Award for the best mobile Software for Productivity, as well as two mobile Merit Awards for Best iPhone App and Best Android App, the same year. Customer service is available at any time of day via the dedicated help portal which features live chat, e-mail, FAQs, a community section and video tutorials. The company’s offers packages for both individual users and teams of three people and more, with storage space and more in-depth control options being the main distinguishing factors between accounts in the same category. Remote wipe, instant photo backups for phones and e-mail upload and syncing are a few of the other key features that differentiate this provider from its competitors. As opposed to many other online cloud backup services, SugarSync can accommodate any type of file with real-time changes visible on any number of devices through advanced syncing, along with versioning and recovery. SugarSync is a Californian start-up that specializes in building premium online backup services ever since it was founded in 2008. No unlimited storage on individual plans. Not all file-sync/sharing apps make sorting so easy. I also appreciate that you can sort files within the iOS app by name (from A to Z or from Z to A) as well as by date (newest to oldest or vice versa). “Open In” lets you open files from other apps directly into SugarSync and choose the folder in which you want the file saved and “Cloud Search” helps you find files or folders you’ve synced. SugarSync for iOS also has some useful, though not exactly revolutionary, new features. For example, it’s now simple to quickly access shared files by clicking “Shared with Me” or “Shared by Me” tabs. The new interface makes SugarSync easier to navigate. The makeover initially debuted earlier this year with the SugarSync desktop app, Web interface and updated Android app. I suspect that’s because SugarSync’s past desktop and app interfaces were confusing compared to the Zen-like simplicity of, say, Dropbox.īut SugarSync’s free, updated iOS app has a redesigned, streamlined interface. SugarSync generally receives less attention than its file-sync/sharing rivals Dropbox, Microsoft SkyDrive, Box and Google Drive. We hope this review will give you some insights, and that you walk away choosing a great duplicate finder that will help free up space on your PC or Mac.ĭisclaimer: The opinions in this guide are all our own. Our goal is to test a group of well-known programs and share the absolute best so you save time exploring programs that may or may not add value to your computing life. He’ll share detailed findings of those Mac apps. Since I’m mostly on a PC, and given that some duplicate finder programs also support macOS, my teammate JP tested a number of Mac duplicate finders on his MacBook Pro. That’s when you’ll probably need a duplicate file finder app that allows you to quickly search for large, old, duplicate files and give you the option to view and delete them. You might use a service like DropBox, iCloud, or Google Drive to backup the same documents or photos that you’ve already transferred multiple times onto your laptop. I use my PC for very basic functions, it’s been a while since I’ve gone through my document and photo files and organized them. I tested twelve different duplicate file finders on my Windows 8-based laptop for this article. I have an ASUS computer, an iPhone, and a few other gadgets to do my research on. I’m just a regular user now who appreciates simple, straightforward user interfaces and programs I don’t have to fight with to make them work. I took a bunch of computer science classes in college as part of my minor and decided back then I wasn’t into coding/programming - but I love computers.
